One of Pensacola's star attractions, the National Museum of Naval Aviation.

Pensacola is called the "First Place City." Don Tristan de Luna founded Pensacola six years before Saint Augustine, almost 50 years before Jamestown and sixty years before the Plymouth Colony. However, the 1559 Colonial attempt by the Spanish ended in just two years making Saint Augustine the oldest continuously settled city in what is now the United States.

The Pensacola Lighthouse was originally built in 1825 and replaced as well as moved in 1859. The historical icon still serves as an aid to navigation. Visitors are sometimes able to climb the 177 steps to the top and are treated to the most magnificent view in Pensacola.

Sometime after Florida became a Territory of the United States in 1821, Andrew Jackson and James Gadsden negotiated a treaty with local Native Americans under this very tree. The tree is estimated to be 800 years old.
Below is an example of the lavish old homes so popular in the Pensacola's economic boom days at the turn of the 20th century.
